The Marian Anderson Awards Recap
The Marian Anderson Awards was this past Tuesday, November 18th 2014, and it was absolutely amazing! For those of you who attended the event that honored the legendary John Bon Jovi, you know just how perfect the night was. But for those of you who didn’t get a chance to witness this epic night, you’re in luck because we’re willing to give you a recap that will ensure your attendance at next year’s Marian Anderson Awards!
The night began promptly at 6:30pm with the New Friends cocktail reception in the Kimmel Center Hamilton Garden. With our beautiful The Nouveau Image founder Michelle Miller and the founder of MCT Entertainment, Mia Tinari, as co-chairs of this event, it was no wonder that it ran so smoothly. Having gorgeous views of the city, yummy cocktails and delicious food catered by Jose Garces, it’s obvious why the event was such a hit. With DJ Arun producing the perfect vibes, a Foto Forward section, and a speech by Pierre Robert from WMR, the New Friends cocktail hour was nothing but exciting. Not to mention the fabulous guests in attendance that made mingling and networking between old and new friends impossible to avoid.
Then at 8:30pm, after everyone was full and relaxed, we were ushered into the massive Verizon Hall to begin the award ceremony. The room itself was seriously perfect, with cozy chairs, a huge stage and amazing acoustics. The ceremony began with the hilarious Wanda Sykes welcoming us and immediately making us laugh and know we were in for an exciting night. Shortly after Nina Tinari the chair of the board spoke about the importance of the Marian Anderson Award, and then quickly introduced us to an amazingly talented young man named,Sean Bennett, who played the violin. After his fantastic performance that received a well deserved a standing ovation, we were then showed a tribute to Marian Anderson and her passion for equal rights as well as music. Shortly after, the other talented performers including the All American Rejects, John Baptiste and his band Stay Human and Estelle performed and truly blew us away. Each performer wowed us with multiple hit songs, and the performances ended with Estelle giving tribute to John Bon Jovi with the famous song Living On a Prayer, with the help of the CAPA choir! Finally the night ended, with fantastic speeches by mayor Nutter, Sister Mary Scullion from Project Home and Senator Cory Booker. All honoring the amazing Bon Jovi who gracefully and attractively thanked everyone for the amazing honor!
This evening was beyond perfect from the very start to the very end. Beginning with the New Friends event, a gala dinner downstairs and ending with epic performances all in honor of the legendary Bon Jovi. It is safe to say this night will be one to remember! We just want to thank everyone who attended and we hope to see you all and more next year for the Marian Anderson Awards!
