2014 New Friends Reception Co-Chaired By Our Founder Michelle!

Next Tuesday, November 18th, the legendary Jon Bon Jovi – founder and front man for the iconic band Bon Jovi – will receive the 16th annual Marian Anderson Award in honor of his professional accomplishments and contributions to philanthropic and humanitarian efforts. Emmy award-winning comedian, Wanda Sykes, will host this year’s Award ceremony.  In addition to Sykes, Grammy-award winner, Estelle, The All American Rejects, and Jon Batiste and Stay Human will perform. Senator Cory Booker and Sister Mary Scullion, of Project Home, will be contributing speakers for the evening.

Tickets for this year’s New Friends Cocktail Reception preceding the 2014 Marian Anderson Award ceremony and concert are now on sale. The Reception will again be co-chaired by Mia Tinari Esq. and our founder Michelle Miller-DeMarco. Special guest Pierre Robert of WMMR will attend and speak about his close friendship with Jon Bon Jovi.

“The New Friends Reception is a fantastic way to expose new individuals to all the wonderful things the Marian Anderson Award achieves,” says Michelle. “This is not a one-night affair. Supporters of the Award work year-round to help musically talented, young individuals in the Philadelphia area.  This is a night of real glitz and glamour, as well as a fund-raiser for a very noble cause.”

The New Friends Cocktail Reception will take place in the Hamilton Garden at the Kimmel Center and will be catered by Garces Catering.  The event begins at 6:30pm. Tickets are limited and will be sold at eventbrite.com at a price of $175 for individuals and $300 for couples.  The tickets also include premium seating for the Award ceremony and concert in Verizon Hall, which begins at 8:30pm. Wanda Sykes to Host Marian Anderson Award Ceremony

This years Marian Anderson award will be honoring Jon Bon on November 18th at the Kimmel Center and will be hosted by Wanda Sykes.  Sykes who is a comedian and actress started out doing stand-up on the road. She went on to make numerous appearances on the big and small screens, and won Emmy nominations for her own stand-up special. We are so thrilled to have her as the announcer to put a comedic spin on such a great event!

It is the 16th year for this event, which is conferred at the conclusion of an elegant black tie dinner followed by a star-studded performance celebrating the award honoree. The award gala, one the most eagerly anticipated social events of the year, is listed by Philadelphia Magazine among the top ten annual social events. The gala has long been considered one of Philadelphia’s premiere social and corporate entertainment evenings. It includes an elegant cocktail reception, formal seated dinner and premium seating at a dazzling multi-media performance featuring some of the greatest artists before the public today.

Music director Bill Jolly was able to secure Estelle, The All American Rejects, Jon Batiste and Stay Human as the musical performances for the evening. Senator Cory Booker and Sister Mary Scullion will be the speakers for the evening.

The ceremony will be held at the Kimmel Center with two different receptions. The New Friends reception will begin with a cocktail reception in the Hamilton Garden at 6:30 PM followed by the award ceremony and performance in Verizon Hall at 8:30 PM. The second and more pretentious reception begins at 5:30 PM with a cocktail hour followed by a seated dinner at 6:30 PM, and then like the New Friends Reception the concert at 8:30 PM. Tickets for this reception are more pricy, the Benefactor ticket is $1,000 per person, this gets you premiere seating for the dinner and performance along with the cocktail reception and benefactor listing in the program. For $500 you can get the Patron ticket, this gets you preferred seating for the dinner and performance as well as the cocktail reception and patron listing in the program. Hemp Heals Music Festival: Great Music, Hemp Education & Shopping!

The Hemp Heals Music Festival is this Saturday, August 2nd, at Festival Pier! Not only will the festival feature awesome headlining bands Slightly Stoopid, Stephen Marley, and G. Love & Special Sauce, but they will have amazing vendors as well!
