Fun Philly Activities For This Weekend!

This week seriously flew by and we couldn’t be any happier! We’re ready to relax and have fun in Philly this weekend without thinking about anything work related. In order to make that possible, we’ve found the best things going on in Philly weekend and we’re ready to share them!

Friday, November 14th

The Rothman Institute Ice Rink at Dilworth Park opens to the public this Friday, November 14 at noon! This winter, the ice rink will draw outdoor recreation lovers to the park to practice their twist and twirls right out front of City Hall. To celebrate opening day there will be complimentary ice skating admission and skate rentals from noon to 3pm (while supplies last of course!). After opening day, the Rothman Ice Rink will operate seven days a week (including holidays!) Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.  The cost is also very inexpensive for a great family fun night: $4, adults; $3, children 10 and under; $8, skate rental! Saturday, November 15th

For all of you organic health lovers, we have the perfect way to spend your saturday afternoon. On November 15, from 12pm-2pm at 2501 E cumberland St in Philadelphia, there will be a medicinal herbs workshop. For only $35, Kristin O’Malley from her website Herban Momma, will be giving an in person call on making your own infused vinegars and herbal syrups to help keep the cold sicknesses at bay this winter! You will also get to take home a bottle of elderberry syrup and fire cider to add to your herbal medicine cabinet!

More in the mood to have a drink or five with your friends in Philly this weekend? How about attending the Philly Fall Crawl. With 12 of center cities best bars participating and an expected turnout of over 1000 people, there is no reason that you shouldn’t attend! Are you a dog lover? Starting Saturday November 15th at 8:30am and running until Sunday, November 16th at 5:00pm the Kennel Club of Philadelphia invites you to The National Dog Show! The show will take place at The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center At Oaks and tickets range from $7.00-$14.00. The shows, sanctioned by The American Kennel Club, will help raise money for a variety of canine-related causes. Prior beneficiaries of The Kennel Club of Philadelphia include The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine. See AKC sanctioned Breed, Group, and Best In Show judging and top agility dogs in the ring each day. Saturday is The National Dog Show, Presented by Purina, to be broadcast nationwide on Thanksgiving Day by NBC. Sunday, November 16

The Penn Museum is known for its world-class selection of ancient artifacts, but in its new series starting this Sunday, the renowned museum examines a piece of history much closer to our time. The museum’s new series kicks off this Sunday, November 16 at 3 p.m., with Maya Deren: New Music and her Surreal Silent Films. The afternoon’s program will include three short films by the Russian-born filmmaker. As the movie rolls, guests can listen to live music by Teiji Ito, Kyle Gann, Leslie Burrs and Chuck Holdeman. Sunday is going to be here faster than we know it and what better way to spend it then by watching the Eagles (7-2) take on the Green Bay Packers (6-3) at the 97.5 viewing party at Xfinity Live! Things to do in Philly – Weekend of 9/5

Saturday, September 6:

Philadelphia’s Classic Rock 102.9 MGK presents Brew Blast on the Battleship New Jersey on Saturday September 6th from 1pm-5pm. Saturday, September 6:

On Saturday September 6th The American Swedish Historical Museum hosts its own “Smorg’asbeer’d “. From 5pm-8pm enjoy a beautiful lookout over the FDR park while sampling local Philadelphia and Swedish lagers, and enjoying a delicious spread of Swedish Meatballs, cheeses and sausage. Saturday, September 6:

Movies you do not want to miss this Summer

Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman star in Lucy, an action packed thriller.  You can see it right in Rittenhouse Square at the new Roxy Theater.  In a world run by the mob, street gangs, drug addicts, and dirty cops, Lucy (Johansson) is forced to work as a drug mule for the mob. The drug implanted in her body mistakenly leaks into her system. The average amount of one’s brain that is able to be accessed is 10%; this drug allows Lucy to access 100% of her brain. She is now able to absorb information instantaneously, move objects with her mind, and choose to not feel any pain. Maleficent

Earth to Echo

The Purge: Anarchy

Catch this super thrilling sequel to The Purge. If you haven’t seen the first one here’s the gist: its set in a futuristic America plagued by crime. To deal with the violence the government has sanctioned a 12 hour period where all crime is legal. A time period they call “The Purge”. The first movie followed the story of a couple that barely escaped death. This same couple is facing similar circumstances in the sequel. They were quickly trying to get home before The Purge starts but to their dismay their car runs out of gas. Moments later the radio announces the beginning of The Purge. The couple has no choice but to leave their vehicle as a group of dangerous purgers on motorcycles stand meters away from them. Follow the duo as they are forced to fight for their lives once more, on the most dangerous night of the year. The Purge is set to release on July 18th.

22 Jump Street

If you haven’t seen this movie yet, make sure you do! Jonah Hill and Channing Tantum are at it again in this hilarious comedy sequel. Although they may have made their way through high school successfully, college is a whole different game. An investigation at a local college requires agents Jenko (Channing Tatum) and Schmidt (Jonah Hill) to go undercover once again. Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art-major scene, both men begin to question their partnership. Not only do they have to crack the case, but now the two overgrown adolescents must learn how to behave like adults. This movie is out in theaters now, catch this flick before it’s too late!

8. Trivia Challenge for a Cure Susan G. Komen for the Cure

This is the 1st annual “Trivia Challenge for a Cure” fundraising event.
